At Cardinal Joinery our mission is to sensitively restore and recreate historic woodwork, preserving both the material fabric of history and the legacy of previous generations of craftspeople.

Every piece and project we work with at Cardinal is done with the artisanship of the past and meant to last a lifetime. We approach our work with the understanding that we are a part of an unbroken line of carpenters, joiners, woodworkers, and others whose techniques have withstood the test of time. In fact, most of our tools and techniques are virtually unchanged from the last 200 years. We obsessively study and learn from history in order to continue its practice, keep it alive, and ultimately pass it onward. We are this generation’s stewards of this knowledge, just as our customers are the stewards of their historic properties. This belief pushes us to create things that will last beyond our lifetimes. In short, Cardinal’s core tenet is preservation; first, the preservation of the built environment and, perhaps more importantly, preservation of the skills necessary to accomplish the first.
